چکیده
Gafrarium divaricatum (Gmelin) was exposed to sublethal concentrations of xylene (4.25 and 8.50 mg/l), benzene (4.35 and 8.70 mg/l) and gear oil-WSF (1 and 2%) for 30 days. There was a decline in condition index of the treated clams while moisture content showed an increase on day 30. Glycogen content of hepatopancreas of the clams treated with the pollutants registered an initial increase on day 4 whereas the level declined in gill and adductor muscle during this period while this constituent in hepatopancreas, gill and adductor muscle of the treated clams recorded drastic decline by day 30. Lactic acid, pyruvic acid and protein content in the three tissues increased significantly on day 4 and 30 of the treatment. It appears that the clams resorts to anaerobic mode of respiration under the pollution stress induced due to prolonged chronic exposure of xylene, benzene and gear oil-WSF.

Pathological alterations in response to water soluble fraction of Iranian crude oil in gill of yellow fin sea bream Acanthopagrus latus (Houttuyn, 1782)
Water soluble fraction (WSF) of crude oil can pollute water and cause histopathological alterations in fishes. Therefore, sea water pollution with crude oil could detrimentally impact the fish health. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of WSF on gills of yellow fin sea bream. The fish were exposed to 0% (control), 2%, 4%, 8% and 16% of WSF for a ...
متن کاملThe effect of respiratory exposure to benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene on the spirometric indices among the petroleum products loading workers
Abstract Background and Aim: Benzene, toluene, xylene and ethyl benzene (BTEX) are the most important aromatic compounds in petroleum products. BTEX compounds due to their high vapor pressure, easily change to gas form and mixed with ambient air. Petroleum products loading workers are exposed to these compounds by the inhalation of BTEX compounds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ef...

In this study the LC50 96h values of water-soluble fractions (WSF) of the Caspian Sea ? exploited crude oil were determined in beluga, Huso huso fingerlings. The fingerlings averaged 2.42 ? 0.11 g in weight were exposed to WSF crude oil at concentrations 24.75, 27, 29.25, 31.5, 33.75, 36, 38.25 ppm. The treatments were performed in three replicates and all changes in the specimens were determin...
متن کاملCancer Risk Assessment Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylene (BTEX) in the Production of Insulation Bituminous
Benzene, Toluene, Ethyl Benzene and Xylene are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with approximately similar physical and chemical characteristics. Benzene and Ethyl-benzene are known carcinogen as well as they affect the circulatory, nervous, and reproductive and respiratory systems. Toluene and Xylene also damage the nervous and reproductive systems. The main purpose of this study is to determ...
